Locals act in dog rescue drama
TWO dogs were dramatically rescued from the roof of a submerged vehicle by local farmers north of Melbourne today. Herbert Bettels, 80, was swept away in flood water in Chintin earlier this afternoon.

Local farmer Chris Sewell and local businessman and farmer Benny Dyer (orange top) help rescue the dogs in flood waters in Chintin after the dogs owner, 80 year old Herbert Bettels, was swept away in his car at Deep Creek.

Police, SES and CFA attended to the rescue of Herbert Bettels, but were prepared to leave the dogs overnight.  However Chris Sewell (back to camera) and Benny Dyer refused to leave the dogs and got a tinny into the rushing waters to extricate the dogs. Happily for the owner, Mr Bettels,  the two and a half year old dogs (sisters – red and blue) were reunited with him. Mr Bettels thanksed everyone for the assistance and rescues.
