SETTLEMENT GROWTH STRATEGY (Sat 29th May) Romsey Hub
Macedon Ranges Settlement Strategy
Council is working on a major new plan to manage urban growth in the Shire, which is expected to
increase from 38,000 people in 2006 to 54,000 in 2026. The Macedon Ranges Settlement Strategy
will provide direction for the future growth of our towns – which towns ought to expand and which
towns may need to be greater controlled due to environmental issues; the location of available
services; or community concerns.
Saturday 29 May, 10am to – 12noon
Romsey Community Hub,
96-100 Main Street. Romsey
Consultants CPG Ltd are preparing a Settlement Strategy for the Shire. In summary, the purpose of the Settlement Strategy is to:
– Provide overall direction for population growth in the Shire.
– Determine which towns will grow and to what extent, through until 2036.
– Provide a holistic approach to provision of urban land and infrastructure in a Shire where towns are highly interdependent and do not operate in isolation.
At present, CPG are working on an Issues and Context Paper that will feed into the development of a Draft Settlement Strategy. We would like to get any initial feedback on issues that need to be addressed. As part of this, we would like your feedback on what you value about the Shire so that we can try to ensure that future growth does not jeopardise those qualities.
Once a Settlement Strategy is adopted, the Council will advance an amendment to the Planning Scheme to ensure that the Strategy is implemented. The process is summarised in the diagram.
Come and talk to us
The consultants preparing the Settlement Strategy, CPG, conducted a series of ‘listening posts’ in March 2010 to contribute to the development of the Issues and Context Paper.
CPG will now be holding a number of Planning by Design workshops in conjunction with the Council. The background research has developed a comprehensive picture of the issues facing the Macedon Ranges and the workshops will start with a presentation of this work. Following on, the workshops will provide an opportunity for all interested residents to comment on the research findings and other matters relevant to consideration of the future growth and protection of the Macedon Ranges Shire.
Please RSVP to Trudy Campbell at: email@example.com
Residents can attend any session convenient for them, regardless of where they live.
