Lancefield and District Historical Society – Artist Peter Sanders and Burke & Wills
Local artist Peter Sanders, will give an illustrated talk about Burke & Wills and their ill-fated journey through Victoria. As you may be aware, the Expedition Party stopped in Lancefield on the evening of 23 August and in Baynton on 24 August 1860. We will learn more about their trip, almost 161 years later, when we hear Peter talk about his exploration of every campsite made by Burke & Wills, and see his paintings commemorating their trip.
Peter will accompany his talk with an exhibition of many of the sixteen paintings he made of the places the Expedition Party stopped on their journey through Victoria. The paintings will be for sale as will copies of prints of these paintings.
How could we resist enjoying another aspect of the Burke & Wills story? The Burke & Wills Winery, located just off the Burke & Wills Track, will be joining us for the afternoon and offering wine tastings. The combination of talk, wine and art offers everyone the opportunity to enjoy a fascinating, informative and entertaining afternoon. For bookings phone 0427 042 753.
DATE: Sunday 25th July 2021.
The cost of the afternoon event is $25.00 per head which includes refreshments (food and wine/beer/soft drink) as well as this fascinating talk.
For catering purposes, please phone Fay Woodhouse on 0427 042 753 or Shirley Kishere on 0402 248 540
