CUT the SILENCE

The Community Event launch on Monday June 13th 2022 from 1 pm to 5 pm.

This initiative is supported by the Macedon Ranges Suicide Prevention Action Group (MRSPAG), Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health and funded by North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network.

Five local barbers are participating: JD’s Hair & Barber Studio Romsey; Joe’s Barber Shop Kyneton; Ace Barber Lancefield; Danny’s Barber Shop Gisborne; Nor’ West Barber Shop Gisborne.

CUT THE SILENCE is a new local campaign in the Macedon Ranges to get men talking.

Funded by North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network and supported by Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health and Macedon Ranges Suicide Prevention Action Group (MRSPAG), this launch party coincides with the start of Men’s Health Week.

The CUT THE SILENCE campaign responds to statistics that tell us Macedon Ranges has a higher suicide rate than the state average with men accounting for four in five deaths. Recent research in Macedon Ranges has also found that over half of the men surveyed agreed that they would not be comfortable talking about their mental health before they reached breaking point.

CUT THE SILENCE is built on a series of video interviews conducted by actor, comedian and Macedon Ranges resident Shane Jacobson with other high profile men who live in the Macedon Ranges. Watch the interviews here: https://www.mrspag.com.au/cut-the-silence

This event is an opportunity to enjoy live music by a talented line-up of artists who understand the importance of checking in with friends, asking another man if he’s okay, and acknowledging their courage to answer that they are not.

$5 from each ticket sold will be donated to MRSPAG.

Ticket price includes food, with drinks available for purchase at bar prices. The organisers advocate responsible alcohol consumption and safe transport options.

Australian Alcohol Guidelines recommend that if you choose to drink, healthy men and women should drink no more than 10 standard drinks a week and no more than 4 standard drinks on any one day.
