Peter Mitchell’s Contribution to the local community:
Peter was a former Romsey Shire Councillor, a member of the Romsey Water Trust, the Romsey Sewerage Authority, the Lancefield Cemetery Trust, the Romsey Lancefield Rotary Club Inc, Romsey Primary school and the scouts.
He has been involved in the Romsey PS 150 Years (1865 -2015) celebrations and assisted former principal of Romsey PS (Trevor Turnham – who wrote the book on Romsey PS). He has been a member of the RRBATA streetscape sub committee – Romsey township rejuvenation project – work is currently underway in the Main Street of Romsey.
As part of the West Bourke Books Inc (now wound up) he was the main author along with Alan Jackson, Carol Moore, Gavin Smith and others for the 312 page book titled: Romsey: A veritable Garden of Eden.
As quoted in The Free Press (Jan 30th 2018):
"I spend six years on that book in between work and heart attacks. Some people urged me to give it up for my own sake. But I believe if you commit to a project you see it through to the end."
He also takes pride in the upgrade of the Lancefield Cemetery many years ago.
Congratulations to Peter Mitchell, a worthy recipient of this award.
