The Romsey Lancefield Rotary Club Romsey Mens Shed Forum held Friday, 4th May.

The Romsey Lancefield Rotary Club Romsey Men’s Shed Forum held Friday, 4th May.

We had a great attendance with over 30 people signing in. Mary-Anne Thomas MP opened the forum with a personal story about her father on his retirement – the Men’s Shed was exactly what he needed. Acting Mayor Janet Pearce also spoke about the importance of a community men’s shed. Cr Bill West was also in attendance as our local council representative and is supporting our endeavours to get a Shed up and running as soon as possible.

Our guest speaker from the Woodend Men’s Shed, Bill Hebb spoke about the importance of a steering committee to begin with to get the Men’s Shed incorporated, writing their Shed rules, searching for that elusive Shed etc. Bill discussed the ups and downs involved but he advised it was well worth it. You could see the prospective members in the room could relate to what Bill spoke about and acknowledged just how important these Sheds are to well being of the local community.

We had seven people offer to be on the steering committee and we have their first meeting booked for Friday, 18th May at 2pm at the Romsey Hub.

Next Meeting: (Friday) 18th May 2018

Venue: Romsey Hub

Victorian State Government Announcement for ROMSEY PRIMARY SCHOOL

$3.2M UPGRADE ROMSEY EDUCATION

Last week it was a real thrill to deliver a $3.2 million ‘cheque’ for the Romsey Regeneration Project as part of the Victorian Budget 2018/19.

This is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s investment in regional and rural schools, because we believe in providing hard-working families the first-rate education their kids deserve, no matter where they live.

This money will go towards investigating expanding Romsey Primary School from a P-6 to a P-9 and to upgrade and modernise facilities.

Needless to say, there were tears of joy when Principal Loren Peavey and the Romsey Primary School staff received the news.

This is great news for Romsey families.

The dedicated staff at this school will soon have the facilities to match the excellent teaching and learning that already takes place in this wonderful school.

I look forward to giving you further updates about this project as it progresses.

Warm regards,
Mary-Anne
