ST MARY’S EQUESTRIAN TEAM- Victoria, Laura, Sophie & Madeleine…..

The newly formed St Mary’s Primary School Lancefield equestrian team competed in its first interschools competition on Saturday … and finished in FIRST PLACE!

A total of 17 school teams competed in the Sacred Heart College Kyneton Interschools Combined Training Day at Kyneton’s pony club grounds.

It was a fantastic effort by the girls, with St Mary’s being the only primary school team to finish in the placings and the FIRST EVER PRIMARY SCHOOL TEAM to win the competition, which has been running for 13 years!

The winning team was the one which performed best in the two elements – dressage and showjumping.

All four team members from Romsey – Sophie Conlan, Victoria Meyer, Laura Newnham and Madeleine Manton – registered good dressage scores and then registered clear rounds in the showjumping.

The girls received medals, sashes and a perpetual trophy plaque which will be able to be displayed at St Mary’s until next year’s event.
2nd was the Kilmore International School, 3rd and 4th were teams from Girton Grammar Bendigo teams and 5th & 6th were teams from Sacred Heart Kyneton.

The Equestrian Victoria Interschools events and pony club interschools events are competitions which bring riders together at various venues across Victoria to compete as a team of 2-4 riders for points for their school. The highest-placed schools at the end of the calendar year win prizes and/or prizemoney for their school. Schools in our region which already take part include Romsey Primary School, Newham Primary School, Braemar College and Assumption College. They wear St Mary’s jumpers over a white shirt and dark green tie, as well as jodphurs, regulation boots and helmets.
